RPSE – Year 10 and 11 Core RPSE

Religion, Personal and Social Education (RPSE)

All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others.”
―     Douglas Adams,     The Salmon of Doubt

AQA Religious Studies B: Unit 1 Religion and Citizenship & Unit 3 Religion and Morality.

All students in Year 10 and 11 follow a GCSE Course in Religious Studies (AQA Religion and Morality Unit 3, Religion and Citizenship Unit 1) in one lesson each week. The course is a combination of RE and PSE hence the name at Chesterton: ‘RPSE’.  This fulfills the requirement for Religious Studies at Key Stage 4 and supports students understanding of the world around them in a moral and social context. Full details and the course specification can be found by clicking here (link to the AQA website).

During the course students study for two examinations

  • Unit 3: Religion and Moral Issues covers: medical ethics: cloning, fertility treatment, IVF; end of life issues: care for the elderly and euthanasia; crime and punishment; drugs and poverty.
  • Unit 1 Religion and Citizenship covers: human relationships, sport & leisure, work, and multicultural society.

This course is assessed in TWO exams at the end of Year 11 which are both 1 hour 30 minutes.

Revision sites such as BBC Bitesize and RS Revision can also help prepare as long as the specific topics for our course are selected.
