The Island

In this unit, students will be shipwrecked on The Island.  This Theatre of Learning style unit takes students on a voyage and presents them with issues that they have to discuss and make decisions about.

Expectations

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will: know the key concepts covered in the lessons and how they might impact on their own lives.

Most students will: know that there are a variety of responses in difficult situations and be able to evaluate those.

Some learners will have progressed further and will: understand the importance of valuing the opinions of others even thought they may be at odds to their own.

Key Assessments
There is no formal assessment in the Island unit of work. The class teacher will use a written task for feedback and monitoring.
Students first lesson is a baseline assessment (this is prior to starting The Island).

How to help your child: THINKING POINTS will be posted on Edmodo to encourage students to engage in discussions outside class time.  They can be encouraged to discuss them with you once they have retold you the story of The Island.
