Special Places

This topic will explore places of significance for religious believers: buildings used for meeting, prayer and worship. It will also look at places that are special to us.

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will know the places of worship for the 6 world religions and also be able to identify some similarities and differences in their use.

Most students will be able to reflect personally on a special place of their own choosing and express what it means to them.

Some learners will have progressed further and will appreciate the importance of the place of worship for the believers.

Key Assessments

1 A classroom test about the knowledge students have gained in their study of various places of worship.

2 An unseen levelled controlled conditions task in the classroom on the theme of special places.

How to help your child

Students will need to learn new vocabulary about the places of worship they are studying. Parents can offer to help with learning these new words.
