Year 7

In Year 7 students have 1 double lesson of Art each fortnight. They study the following extended project.

‘Out of Africa’ African Animal Masks and textiles.

In this unit students learn about traditional African masks from a range of countries and cultures and explore the work of contemporary Beninese artists Romauld Hazoume.

Expectations

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will have an understanding of the importance of mask making in African culture and how Hazoume is influenced by this.  Students will develop the key skills of drawing and designing through animal drawings and designing and making an African animal mask using collograph printing techniques. students will also have the opportunity to learn how to monoprint and explore ceramic and printmaking techniques.

Key Assessments

Sketchbook work and masks will be given grades in line with the schools marking and assessment policy
