‘Go Native’ Haida Art

In this unit students learn about Native American Haida Art and design and make their own printed animal based on the ideas of a spirit animal.

Expectations

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will recognise the characterisitcs of Haida Art and be able to make a two colour screen print. Students will explore Haida art and culture and the tradition of spirit animals. Students will develop key drawing skills through drawing their chosen animal and designing their Haida style animal print. Students will learn how to make  stencils and print complex designs.

Key Assessments

The sketchbook work and screen prints are assessed in line with the schools marking and assessment policy.

How to help your child

Visit  the museum of archaeology and anthropology to see examples of Native American Art. Discuss their chosen spirit animal, it should reflect their characteristics!
