Theatre In Education

This is a unit which introduces students to the processes and practises of devising a piece of extended theatre from scratch.  Students will work in groups to create a piece of theatre in education to be performed to our feeder Primary Schools and our own  Year 7 students before the Easter holidays.


By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will: be able to list and discuss the assessment criteria for unit 3 the practical exam.

Most students will: be able to perform an original piece of drama which employs a range of elements and mediums of drama.  They will also be able to effectively communicate a character(s) which shows good levels of imagination and use of voice and movement.

Some learners will have progressed further and will: be able to communicate a character and content and style which is highly imaginative and shows outstanding control over and appreciation of the elements and mediums of drama.


At the end of this unit the final performances will be filmed, they will then be assessed by the teacher. Students will also have an opportunity to self assess their performance and peer assess the performances of others.

How to help your child

It would be helpful if parents could help students reflect on their practical work in lessons by asking students to discuss the character and the story line of their piece.  It would also be helpful if parents could encourage students to take risks and create characters which are very different to themselves.
