Unit 1 – Talking about your home

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to say the type of house they live in, how long they have lived there, where it is, what rooms there are and what their bedroom is like.
Most students will be able to describe more precisely where something is using prepositions and the dative case.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to say if they would prefer to live elsewhere and why and include independently researched vocab on house and home.

Key vocabulary: Ich wohne in einem Doppelhaus = I live in a terraced house; das Haus liegt am Stadtrand=the house is on the edge of town; Es gibt (k)ein(2) Schlafzimmer/Badezimmer=there are no/one/(2)bedrooms; Ich wohne seit fünfzehn Jahren in diesem Haus = I have lived in this house for 15 years; das Haus ist familienfreundlich = the house is family-friendly; Mein Zimmer sieht chaotisch/ordentlich aus = my room looks chaotic/tidy; ich würde (nie) umziehen,weil das Haus (perfekt) ist.

Unit 2 – Talking about your routine; using reflexive verbs

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to describe their daily routine in the present tense.
Most students will be able to say how their daily routine differed recently.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to talk about their daily routine using future and conditional tenses.

Key vocabulary: Um (sieben) Uhr wache/stehe ich auf = at (7) o’clock I wake/get up; dann wasche ich mich/ziehe ich mich an= then I get washed/dressed; an einem Schultag = on a school day; täglich =daily; während der Woche; am Ende des Tages =at the end of the day; zuerst = at first; anschlieβend =afterwards;

Unit 3 – Discussing your opinion on household chores; using present, perfect, future and conditional tenses

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to discuss some house hold chores using present and past tense.

Key vocabulary: Ich decke (oft) den Tisch ab = I often clear the table; Ich räume auf um geld zu verdienen = I tidy up to earn money; Früher habe ich mein Bett gemacht = I used to make my bed; man kann/könnte die Wäsche in die Waschmaschine legen = you can/could put the washing in the washing machine; in diesem Alter sollte man im Haushalt helfen = at this age you ought to help around the house; wenn ich Kinder habe, werden sie…. when I have children, they will….. das Frühstück vorbereiten = prepare breakfast

Unit 4 – Describing your surroundings; talking about the advantages and disadvantages of where you live

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to describe the facilities of where they live.
Most students will be able to give some advantages and disadvantages.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to express and justify their points of view and use correct word order after subordinating conjunctions “dass” and “obwohl”

Key vocabulary: Cambridge liegt in Ostengland = Cambridge is in the East of England; Die Stadt hat ungefähr (hundertzwanzigtausend) Einwohner = the town has (120,000) inhabitants/viel zu bieten = a lot to offer ; Ende Juli/Anfang August gibt es ein Musik-Event im Park ; Hier gibt es =here there is; (k)einen Jugendclub/(k)ein Sportzentrum/Hallenbad = no/a youthclub/sports centre/indoor pool; (k)eine Geschäfte/Radwege/Graffiti = no shops/cycle paths/graffiti; viel/keinen Müll/Verkehr/Lärm = lots of /no rubbish/traffic/noise; Hier kann man reiten/spazieren /schwimmen gehen = you can go riding/for walks/swimming here; die Umgebung ist = the environment is; grün/gesund/gefährlich/ein biβchen deprimierend = a little depressing; im Groβen und Ganzen = on the whole; ein Vorteil/Nachteil ist, dass.. = an advantage/disadvantage is that

Unit 5 – Talking about your future home

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to say where they will live in the future.
Most students will be able  to use subordination.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to describe their ideal home.

Key vocabulary: In der Zukunft werde ich an der Küste /auf dem Land/in den Bergen wohnen =in the future I will live on the coast/ in the country/in the mountains; Mein zukünftiger Wohnort muss ruhig/sauber/sicher sein = my future home will have to be quiet/clean/safe; Es wird einen Skatepark geben =there will be a skateboard park; wo wir rumhängen können = where we can hang about; ich werde mich nie langweilen= I will never get bored; weil ich Freunde in der Nähe haben werde = because I will have friends nearby; ich wünsche mir auch ein gutes Lokal/gute Restaurants in der Gegend/Umgebung = I’d also like to have a good pub/good restaurants nearby.
