Unit 1 – Introduce yourself

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to give basic information about themselves.
Most students will be able in addition to give information about
other family members.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to use different tenses.

Key vocabulary:  Ich habe einen älteren Bruder/ eine jüngere Schwester, der/die…heißt.. = I have an older brother/sister who is called ….; Ich bin Einzelkind =  I am an only child; Meine Geschwister/Eltern heißen…. My siblings/parents are called; …sind geschieden = are divorced. Ich wohne bei meinem/er Vater/Mutter…. Ich komme aus London und wurde auch da geboren…. I come from London and I was born there…. seit… Monaten/Jahren wohne ich in…. since…months/years I live in…..; mein Geburtstag ist am ersten/zweiten /dritten Januar/Februar…..

Unit 2 – Saying what sort of person you are

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to say what kind of person they are using a range of  vocabulary and qualifiers.
Most students will be able in addition to describe other people’s personalities and compare themselves to what they were like in the past.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to describe would a good friend should be like.

Key vocabulary: Ich bin ab und zu/ wirklich/selten…. = I am now and then/ really/rarely….. egoistisch/faul/frech/(un)geduldig/(un)freundlich, sympatisch/ launisch/ gut,schlecht gelaunt/humorvoll, -los/(un)höflich/gemein/vertsändnisvoll/ ein guter Zuhörer… = selfish/lazy/cheeky/(im)patient/(un)friendly/nice,kind/moody/ good,bad tempered/ have a good/no sense of humour/(im)polite,nasty/understanding/a good listener; ich denke, dass meine beste/schlechteste Eigenschaft ist, dass ich…..bin = I think, that my best/ worst feature is that I am….; wir verstehen uns ganz gut = we get on rather well; …. hat immer Zeit für mich = has always time for me; gibt mir immer Unterstützung = always supports me; redet mit mir über alles = talks to me about everything. Ich kann sehr neidisch/eifersüchtig sein = I can be very envious/jeallous; …..das ist mir wichtig = that is important to me. Früher war ich oft… aber jetzt bin ich… = In the past I often used to be…. but now I am….

Unit 3 – Give your opinion on household chores; using present, perfect, future and conditional tenses

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to  discuss some house hold chores using present and past tense.
Most students will be able in addition to say what chores they rather do than others.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to say what they/others will do to help at home.

Key vocabulary: Ich decke/räume (oft) den Tisch (ab) = I often lay/clear the table; Ich räume auf um Geld zu verdienen = I tidy up to earn money; Früher habe ich mein Bett gemacht = I used to make my bed; man kann/könnte die Wäsche in die Waschmaschine legen = you can/could put the washing in the washing machine; in diesem Alter sollte man im Haushalt helfen = at this age you ought to help around the house; wenn ich Kinder habe, werden sie…. when I have children, they will…..  das Frühstück vorbereiten = prepare breakfast

Unit 4 – Talking about your routine; using reflexive verbs

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to describe their daily routine in the present tense.
Most students will be able in addition to say how their daily routine differed recently.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to talk about their daily routine using future and conditional tenses.

Key vocabulary: Um (sieben) Uhr wache/stehe ich auf = at (7) o’clock I wake/get up; dann wasche ich mich/ziehe ich mich an= then I get washed/dressed; an einem Schultag = on a school day; täglich =daily; während der Woche; am Ende des Tages =at the end of the day; zuerst = at first; anschlieβend =afterwards; aber gestern war ich müde/erschöpft/ krank =  but yesterday I was tired/exhausted/ill; hatte ich Bauch-/Kopfschmerzen… I had a stomach-/ headache; …musste ich im Bett/zu Hause bleiben = I had to stay in bed/at home; aber gestern bin ich spät aufgestanden/joggen gegangen/mit dem Hund spazieren gegangen…. but yesterday I got up late/went jogging/went for a walk with the dog; nächste Woche werde ich versuchen früher aufzustehen…. = next week I will try to get up earlier; wenn ich nicht so faul wäre, würde ich morgens Yoga machen = if I wasn’t so lazy, I would do yoga in the morning

Unit 5 – Saying what you did last night

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to say what they did last night.
Most students will be able in addition to say what somebody else did and what they will do the next day.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to describe their ideal evening.

Key vocabulary: Gestern, nach der Schule = Yesterday, after school; bin ich mit meinen Freunden in die Stadt gegangen = I went ot town with my friends; habe ich Theater gespielt = I did drama; habe ich im Chor gesungen = I sang in the choir;  habe ich auf face book mit meinen Freunden gechattet = I have chattet with my friends on face book; bin ich ins Fitnessstudio gegangen = I went to the gym; habe ich zuerst Zeitungen ausgetragen und dann Hausaufgaben gemacht = I first had my paper round and then I did my homework;  um halb acht habe ich, wie immer, mit meiner Familie zu Abend gegessen = at half past seven I had, like always, dinner with my family…..

Unit 6 -What sport or activity would you like to try and why?

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to which sports they would try or not and why.
Most students will be able in addition to give several reasons for their choice.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to say what skills/risks these sports involve.
