Unit 1 – Ask and say what you do for a part time job.

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to understand basic texts about part time jobs and be able to say what they do, including an opinion using the verb ‘finden’.
Most students will be able to include the verb ‘gefallen’ and the ‘weil’ clause.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to say what other people do using the perfect tense irregular verbs.

Key vocabulary: Hast du einen Job? = Do you have a job?; Ich arbeite im Supermarkt/Restaurant/Sportgeschäft = I work in the supermarket/restaurant/sports shop; Ich trage Zeitungen aus = I have a paper round; Ich wasche das Auto = I wash the car; Ich helfe zu Hause/im Garten = I help out at home/in the garden; Ich mache Babysitting = I do babysitting

Unit 2 – Qualities/characteristics for certain jobs.

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to understand monolingual explanations of the above words and can use these words.
Most students will be able to conduct a short conversation about characteristics and write about their ideal job.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to write what jobs they did in the past.

Key vocabulary: Man/Ich muss freundlich/fleißig/vernünftig/ordentlich/geduldig/höflich/hilfsbereit/pünktlich/computererfahren sein = One/I has/have to be friendly/hard working/sensible/organised/patient/polite/helpful/punctual/computer literate

Unit 3 – Say what you will do with your money. Learning the language for  playing a game.

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to say how much they have earned and some items they will buy using the future tense.
Most students will be able to play the money game in Logo 3 Rot p. 89.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to read and understand an extended text on part time jobs and money.

Key vocabulary: Ich habe… verdient = I have earned… ; Ich werde einen Computer/Walkman… eine Sonnenbrulle/Stereoanlage… ein Mofa/Handy… Stiefel/Kleidung kaufen = I will buy a computer/walkman/pair of sunglasses/stereo/moped/mobile phone/pair of boots/clothes. ; Ich werde nach Spanien fahren = I will travel to Spain. ; Ich werde es sparen = I will save it; Ich bin dran = it’s my turn; Ich habe eine drei/enz = I have rolled a one/three; Einmal aussetzen = Miss a turn; Zwei Felder zurück = two squares back

Unit 4 – Higher numbers – counting up to ten thousand

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to count up to ten thousand.
Most students will be able to spell the numbers correctly.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to count without limit.

Key vocabulary: hundert/neuntausendeinhundertfünfundzwanzig = one hundred/nine thousand one hundred and twenty five

How to help your child

Please use the vocabulary on this unit under the homework on the website to support your child’s work at home.  Please test your child on the related vocab, orally and/or in writing.  Encourage your child to use the sound files underneath the vocab files.  They should listen and repeat several times.  Please encourage your child to do learning on a little and often basis as this is the most effective strategy for learning vocab.  Please encourage your child to use a dictionary or online dictionary such as www.wordreference.com to check the meaning of words in their homework book and NOTE this on the text. Encourage your child not to rush their written work but to check all language carefully, using model texts and a dictionary.  It is best not to leave homework until the night before it is due in, in case there are difficulties or questions the teacher could answer.  Useful supporting material can be found on http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/ and on http://www.zut.org.uk/index.html which is  a free online resource available after 4pm and before 9am and weekends.
