In this unit, pupils learn about African-Americans within American society. They are encouraged to consider the changing experiences of the black community, as well as changes within America as a whole, as African-Americans moved from slavery to freedom, and towards equality.
Most children will be able to explain how the actions of certain individuals impacted upon the struggle for civil rights in the USA.
Some children will not have made so much progress and will be able to recall information on key individuals and events.
Some children will have progressed further and will be able to compare and contrast the impact from different individuals and evaluate who had the biggest impact overall.
