Aut a – Notes & Pentatonic Music

Notes and Pentatonic Music is the introductory unit for Year 7 students. This unit introduces students to the concept of a pulse and basic notation through practical instrumental or vocal performance and compositional tasks with either the whole class group or in a smaller group.  vocal and instrumental music making.  

This unit also introduces musical terminology such as: pentatonic, scale, tone, semitones, ostinato, phrase.

Expectations:

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to perform in a variety of contexts in a whole class situation. Students will also have an understanding of good rehearsal practice and basic manners for social music making.

Most students will be able to hold their own part in performance, both vocally and instrumentally.

Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to lead a small group and take a solo part.

How to help your child:

To support your child’s study you could encourage them to listen to other forms of music via the internet, radio, etc. Please also encourage your child to join Year 7 choir and other extra-curricular music groups.
