This unit is the second introductory unit for Year 7 students. This unit introduces students to basic note vales and rhythmic notation and their related rests through African drumming and Stomp! Students will watch a selection of Stomp! performances and re-create this, whilst applying the note values and rhythmic notation they have been introduced to, in their own Stomp! inspired composition.
This unit also introduces musical terminology such as: pulse, ostinato, phrase, semibreve, minim, crotchet, quaver, rest, call and response and polyrhythm.
By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will: be able to perform simple rhythmic patterns and identify some rhythmic notations and their note values.
Most students will: be able to perform more complicated polyrhythmic patterns and identify most rhythmic notations and their note values.
Some learners will have progressed further and will: be able to perform more complication polyrhythms still and will be able to lead a group as well as identifying and utilising more advanced rhythmic notations and their note values.
