Spr b – Keyboard Technique

In this unit students will be introduced to the layout of keyboard and learn good fingering techniques. They will play a range of melodies and will have an introduction to scales and chords.

Expectations:

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to perform in a variety of contexts in paired work. Students will also have an understanding of good rehearsal practice and basic manners for social music making, with specifically respecting equipment.

Most students will be able to perform a simple melody and provide a simple accompaniment for another student and be able to play a scale using all five fingers.

Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to perform with both hands individually and provide a less simple accompaniment for another student’s work.

How to help your child:

To support your child’s study you could encourage them to listen to other forms of music via the internet, radio, etc. Please also encourage your child to join Year 7 choir and other extra-curricular music groups. If you have access to a keyboard instrument at home, encourage your child to practice it.
