Students will study the use and importance of Music in popular culture today, more specifically in film and the media through listening activities. Later in the unit students then design a product to advertise and utilise concepts studied throughout Year 7 and 8 students create a piece of music to aid the advertising of their chosen product.
This unit revisits and consolidates much musical terminology from across Year 7 & 8. However terminology such as the following is also used: composed and pre-composed music.
By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will: be able to perform a simple composition as part of a group, in a mood appropriate to their chosen product. Students will also have an understanding of good rehearsal practice and basic manners for social music making, specifically respecting equipment.
Most students will: be able to perform a more complex composition as part of a group, in a mood appropriate to their chosen product. Students will perform confidently and with accuracy.
Some learners will have progressed further and will: be able to perform a more complex and creative composition as part of a group, probably taking a leading role in the group. Students may like to develop the project using technology and or film in the production of their final outcome. Students will perform with confidence and accuracy.
How to help your child
Encourage students to join extra-curricular groups and encourage students to listen and take note of music used in radio, TV and film. Practice and develop composition ideas at home if students have access to a suitable instrument.
