Unit 1 – Talking about your home

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to say the type of house they live in,  what rooms there are, what the house is like and give basic opinions.
Most students will be able to describe more precisely and give more complicated expressions of opinion and justifications.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to say if  they would prefer to live elsewhere  and why and  include independently researched vocab on house and home.

Key vocabulary: Vivo en una casa/un piso = I live in a house/ flat; está en la ciudad/en las afueras/en un pueblo = it is in the town/in the outskirts/in a village. (no)hay dos dormitorios pequeños – un (gran) jardín = there are no/one/(2)bedrooms – a big garden; Lo bueno/lo malo es que (no) hay/tenemos un ascensor/terraza/unas vistas a la piscina/ mucho/poco espacio = The good/bad thing is that there is (no)/we (don’t)have  a lift/terrace/views on the pool/lots,little/space; Lo que más/menos me gusta es que hay…= the best/worst thing is that there is….; es viejo/bonito… = it is old/nice; Opino que..= I think that… me da(n) rabia…= it makes me angry; No soporto = I can’t stand..; me encanta vivir en… I like to live in….; odio vivir en… I hate to live in… porque.. because…

Unit 2 – Describing your town and surroundings; talking about the advantages and disadvantages of where you live

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to describe the facilities of where they live.

ost students will be able to give some advantages and disadvantages.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to what the town used to be like e.g. ‘mi abuela dice que antes era..’

Key vocabulary:  Vivo en una ciudad histórica/industrial/bonita/fea/ turística/conocida/ tranquila = I live in a historical/industrial/nice/ugly/well known/quiet town; hay parques/cines/polideportivas/monumentos/la universidad famosa = There are parks/cinemas/sportcentres/monument/ the famous university; hay mucho que hacer/ mucho lugares de interés/mucha contaminación = there is a lot to do/ a lot of places of interest/ a lot of pollution; hay mucho basura/tráfico/ruido= there is a lot rubbish/traffic/noise; hay muchos habitants = there are a lot of inhabitants;  no hay muchos árbolos/espacios verdes/red de transporte public = there aren’t lots of trees/green spaces/public transport network; se puede montar a caballo/hacer la natanción = You can go riding/schwimmen ; un ventaja/disventaja es que (no) tenemos…  = an advantage/disadvantage is that we (don’t) have…;deberíamos construir una bolera… para los jóvenes = we should build a bowling alley for young people.

Unit 3 – Talking about your future home

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to say where they will live in the future.
Most students will be able to use subordination.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to describe their ideal home.

Key vocabulary:  En el future voy a vivir a la costa/en el campo/en las montañas = in the future I will live on the coast/ in the country/in the mountains; allí, donde viviré  se debe ser tranquilo/limpio/seguro/precioso = there, where I will live it must be quiet/clean/safe/beautiful; Habrá una pista monopatín = there will be a skateboard park; donde se puede encontrarse con sus amigos = where you can meet your friends;  nunca sera aburrido= it will never be boring; porque mis compañeros vivirán cerca = because  my friends will live nearby; en el entorno = in the surroundings
