Unit 1 – Discussing how we can help the environment

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to understand the main points of a text outlining environmental problems and answer questions on this in English.
Most students will be able to write in Spanish what you could/should do to protect the environment.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to write a short paragraph using a range of tenses(present, past, future and conditional).

Key vocabulary: Deberíamos…= We should….comprar productos ecológicos = buy green product; consumir menos energía = use less energy; mantener el aire limpio/el aqua limpia = keep the air/water clean; mejorar la red de transporte =improve the public transport network; plantar más arboles = plant more trees; proteger la naturaleza = protect nature; reciclar papel y vidrio = rcycle paper and glass; usar el aqua de forma responsible = use water responsibly; usar más el transporte público = use public transport more; No deberíamos… We shouldn’t…; malgastar el aqua = waste wáter; tirar la basura al suelo = throw rubbish on the ground.

By the end of this unit it is expected that all students will be able to able to understand the main points of a text outlining nowadays problems and answer questions on this in English.
Most students will be able to write in Spanish about some problems.
Some learners will have progressed further and will be able to write a short paragraph using a range of tenses(present, past, future and conditional) 

Key vocabulary: el agujero de la capa de ozono = the hole in the ozone layer; el calentamiente global = global warming; el hambre = hunger; el paro = unemployment; el terrorismo = terrorism; la crisis económica = economic crisis; la delincuencia =delinquency;  la igualidad = equality; discriminación = discrimination; la justicia = justice; la pobreza = poverty; los derechos humanos = human rights; los sin techo = the homeless; (no) es un problema más/muy/tan serio = it is (not) the most/a very/such a serious problema; es esencial que/importante que/increíble que/necesario que/terribleque…= it is essential that/important that/incredible that/necesssary that.terrible that.
